Adding ligatures to your wordart can really make your titles or wordart stand out and make a statement. In this tutorial, I will show you how to modify a font and make it your own in 3 easy steps.
This is the final layout with the modified heading
Here is how to do it in 3 easy steps.
set up your layout file in Photoshop. I’m doing this in Photoshop but you can do it in any program where you scrap. I’ve set up the file as a normal scrap page so I can judge the size of the wordart.
I’m using this layout that I made a little while ago with “a breath of fresh air”. I’m going to change the quote that I had on the layout to a title below the photo. I’ve added a text box with the text tool and I’m ready to start.
To add a text box in photoshop, select the text tool on the left hand side tools bar and click and drag a box where you want the text to be
Type your title using a font of your choice. I’m using Bombshell Pro but you could use the free font Autumn Chant which looks similar. I’ve typed in joy because the memory of the merry-go-round brings me joy. I used the colour picker to select a colour from the image and matched it to the text so that it co-ordinates. Once you have the word set, bring in one of the ligatures from the ligatures pack available at Oscraps. You could draw a ligature and scan it in, but it’s easier to use something that is already made. I’ve marked in red the ligature I picked for the layout.
In step 3, I’ve adjusted the ligature until it pleases me. In this case, I flipped it horizontally, changed the colour to be the same as the font and placed it where it looked like it was part of the font.
That’s it, you’re done. This is what the completed layout looks like
“Ligatures” is a set of 15 ligatures/doodles for your wordart or just for fun. These ligatures were hand drawn and then processed to high standard vectors before being exported to PNG and ABR photoshop formats. The ligatures are available at Oscraps.
“A breath of fresh air” is a very popular kit consisting of 5 papers and 20 elements.
Take care and happy digital scrapbooking.
